I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

Nebraska’s giant spring game recruiting weekend started with a bang Friday night when cornerback Brendan “Bookie” Radley-Hiles announced in an emotional video that he was committing to Nebraska.

A consensus top 50 national prospect — he’s No. 36 in the nation according to Rivals and 247Sports’ Composite service — Radley-Hiles shared the 90-second video via Twitter on Friday night, which culminated in announcing his decision. It’s dedicated to his older brother, Brandon Webb, who died before Radley-Hiles was born. After visiting Webb’s grave and placing a No. 44 necklace on the headstone — the 5-foot-10, 185-pounder wears No. 44 because his brother died four years and four days before he was born — Radley-Hiles walks away, pulling off a Los Angeles Kings hockey jersey to reveal a Nebraska sweatshirt.

“I was thinking about building my legacy away from home,” said Radley-Hiles in the video — he’s originally from the Los Angeles area. “And starting fresh in the heart of the country. A new city, new beginnings, new everything.”

The Huskers just landed an incredibly special young man! He saw the vision. Time to keep it going!! #GBR 1f534.png1f3c8.png1f33d.png

Radley-Hiles received an offer from the Huskers on Feb. 29, 2016.

Nicknamed "Bookie," Radley-Hiles transferred to Calabasas after his sophomore season. There he teamed up with Husker commits Keyshawn Johnson Jr. and Tristan Gebbia. He's also cousins with Tyjon Lindsey, another member of NU's 2017 signing class.

For his senior year, Radley-Hiles has transferred to IMG Academy, a sports-focused boarding school in Bradenton, Florida. IMG coach Kevin Wright said Radley-Hiles has already made his mark there.

“Bookie’s been a tremendous fit from the start. He’s a competitor,” Wright said of Radley-Hiles, who has been at IMG for a little more than three months. “What he lacks in height he makes up in his competitiveness. He runs well, uses his hands well, he’s a really good press coverage corner. If we needed him on offense, he’d play offense, too — he’s that athletic. Very dynamic guy, but first and foremost, he’s a leader on and off the field. He made that impression since January.”

In an interview with Scout, Radley-Hiles said the presence of Lindsey, Gebbia and Johnson was an “extra positive,” but not the determining factor in picking Nebraska. In an interview with

On March 13, NU recruiting staff member Todd McShane tweeted a picture of a letter being sent to Radley-Hiles. It read: "Hope you're doing well Young Sniper! Nebraska will always feel like home for you. The sooner we get you on board with this class the quicker we'll attract other big names!"

On April 6, 2017, Radley-Hiles included the Huskers in his top five along with Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas and UCLA.

Radley-Hiles was one of the standout performers at the Husker satellite camp in Los Angeles in June 2016, originally scheduled to be held at his high school until a brush fire caused a location change. At the camp, Radley-Hiles got to work first-hand with Husker coaches and spend time with other targets.

Radley-Hiles posted a SPARQ score of 105.57 at The Opening Regional in Los Angeles in February 2016. That was the 26th best score out of more than 320 participants. It was also the third best score among members of the 2018 class. It included a 4.55-second 40-yard dash and 33.2-inch vertical jump.

World-Herald staff writer Sam McKewon included him on his early list of 25 prospects to watch for the Huskers' 2018 recruiting class.
