NFL Hall of Famer Frank Gifford has died, according to a statement from his family. He was 84 years old.
"It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father and friend, Frank Gifford," the family said in a statement. "Frank died suddenly this beautiful Sunday morning of natural causes at his Connecticut home."
The 1956 NFL MVP, Gifford was drafted in the first round by the New York Giants in 1952 out of USC.
An ironman at USC, Gifford carried that versatility to the NFL where he was voted to eight Pro Bowls at three different positions -- defensive back, halfback and flanker.
After suffering a crushing hit at the hands of Chuck Bednarik of the Philadelphia Eagles, Gifford briefly retired, sitting out the 1961 season. He returned in 1962 as a wide receiver before retiring for good in 1964.
Following his playing career, Gifford became a broadcaster and worked alongside Howard Cosell and later Al Michaels for Monday Night Football.

As Dandy Don sang, "Turn out the lights his life is over." Or something like that.

Running has an uncanny ability to mellow the soul, to take the edge off hard feelings, and put things back into healthy perspective.
Yeah, it's a 50 caliber. They used to use it to hunt buffalo with... up close! It's only legal in two states. And this isn't one of them.
