And then we play them again next season in non-conference.

The Insight Bowl AND the Alamo Bowl passed us over. They must have watched our offense last night.

Report: Holiday Bowl To Pick Washington, Nebraska
Dec 05 3:50p by Brian Floyd

Reports are surfacing indicating the Washington Huskies will face the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Holiday Bowl. The Huskies and Cornhuskers faced-off in Seattle on Sept. 18, with Nebraska blowing out Washington, 56-21. The Holiday Bowl invite would mean Alamo Bowl passed on both Washington and Nebraska, choosing the Arizona Wildcats and Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Omaha sports reporter Tom Shatel tweeted the news moments ago.

The Holiday Bowl is supposed to pit the #5 Big 12 team against a Pac 10 team. Apparently the Big 12 office did not want the Insight featuring two Big 10 teams, NU and Iowa...so pressure was put on them to pass on us. Alamo passed for the same reason.

Huskies will rematch with Nebraska in Holiday Bowl UPDATED
Bob Condotta

In returning to a bowl for the first time since 2002, the Huskies will get a chance to avenge one of their tougher losses of this season as UW will play Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl Dec. 30 in San Diego.

I can now comfirm what is also being reported in several other places, as well. Tom Shatel of the Omaha World-Herald is reported is among those also reporting that the Huskies will match up with Nebraska.

And the San Diego Union-Tribune is also reporting the matchup.

Nebraska beat UW 56-21 in Seattle on Sept. 18, taking a 14-0 lead after two possessions and never letting up.

Bowl rematches are not common, but the Holiday Bowl had no choice in who it would take of Pac-10 teams after the Alamo selected, with that bowl siding with Arizona, which at 7-5 finished with a better record than UW overall and beat the Huskies 44-14 during the season.

And Nebraska fell to the Holiday when the Insight passed, instead taking Missouri. The Holiday has the fifth pick of Big 12 schools.

However, this rematch seems even a little more unlikely on the face of it because UW will also play at Nebraska next year, meaning the two teams will meet three times in 12 months. Also, Nebraska played in the Holiday Bowl last year, demolishing Arizona 33-0.

But it's the bowls that make the picks on this and UW has no real say in the matter as it was obligated to go there per the Pac-10 contracts.

And one rumor making the rounds is that the Big 12 pushed for favorable matchups for the schools that are staying in its conference. Nebraska is bolting the conference for the Big Ten after this season (which also could be one reason the Holiday would have no trouble taking the Cornhuskers as it would be the bowl's last chance to get it via the contract with the Big 12).Posted Image

Nebraska finished the regular season 10-3 after losing to Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game Saturday, 23-20.

UW and Nebraska have played five times since 1991, with UW sweeping a home-and-home in 91 and 92, and Nebraska sweeping a home-and-home in 1997 and 1998 as well as this year's win at Husky Stadium.

Here's a story I wrote on the history of the series in September, as well as a blog post.

I'll update as the night progresses.

Holiday Bowl to get Nebraska-Washington rematch

Nebraska fell to San Diego after Insight Bowl chose Missouri instead

When: Dec. 30, 7 p.m.

Where: Qualcomm Stadium

TV: ESPN

Nebraska and Washington will play in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl on Dec. 30, a rematch of their game in Seattle Sept. 18 when the Cornhuskers won, 56-21.

Nebraska (10-3) fell into the Holiday Bowl's lap when the Insight Bowl in Arizona chose Missouri (10-2) instead, though it's not clear yet why.

The game matches a fifth pick from the Big 12 Conference against a No. 3 or 4 pick from the Pac-10.

The Holiday had no choice but to take Washington (6-6) when the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio opted for Arizona (7-5) instead. No other Pac-10 teams were eligible to be picked because the Pac-10 only qualified four teams for bowls with at least six wins. USC (8-5) was not eligible because it's on probation. Arizona State (6-6) was not eligible because two of its wins came against lesser-division teams.

The Holiday makes its Big 12 pick after the Bowl Championship Series, the Cotton Bowl, Alamo Bowl and Insight Bowl. Big 12 champ Oklahoma (11-2) is headed to the Fiesta Bowl of the BCS to play Big East champ UConn (8-4). The Cotton Bowl selected Texas A&M (9-3), followed by the Alamo's selection of Oklahoma State (10-2) to play Arizona (7-5) of the Pac-10. That left the Insight Bowl to chose Nebraska or Missouri.

In the Pac-10, Oregon (12-0) is headed to the national championship game to play Auburn (13-0), while Stanford (11-1) also is headed for a BCS berth in the Orange Bowl. The Alamo Bowl picks next among Pac-10 teams and had only two teams from which to choose: Washington or Arizona, which has lost four straight.

Arizona's shorter travel distance to San Antonio and better overall record likely factored into the Alamo's decision to take Arizona, leaving the Holiday with not choice but to take Washington.

I thought bowls had attendance as their #1 criteria. I seriously hope the majority of Husker fans decide not to respond to this type of slap in the face by rewarding it with attendance.

We will play Washington three times in 12 months. Unreal. We are heading to a bowl who is supposed to take the FIFTH PLACE Big 12 team.

Fucked by Beebe and the Big 12 one last time.

This is a no win situation. We won't get any credit for the win since we've already beaten Washington by five touchdowns but if we somehow find a way to lose to a team with six losses we'll never hear the end of it.

Great.

I guess we deserve this for not taking care of business last night.

So true, Bo. We're right back in the Holiday Bowl after another unforgivable Big 12 CCG loss.
