Running has an uncanny ability to mellow the soul, to take the edge off hard feelings, and put things back into healthy perspective.
Yeah, it's a 50 caliber. They used to use it to hunt buffalo with... up close! It's only legal in two states. And this isn't one of them.

I really like it quite a bit and never saw myself using a reader, but I started using my Droid Inc as a reader, and then went out and grabbed a nook once I found I really liked ebooks much better than deadtreebooks. I can read the same books on my phone when I don't have the nook around too which is nice as well.
I was skeptical, but am a big fan now... easily have read more books on it in the past month than I have in the past two years. If you're into new releases you should have no problem with finding what you want on either device... however some older books haven't been converted yet because the publisher doesn't see them as profitable... (give me all of Larry Niven's Known Space series please) But you can sideload .epub books you find elsewhere.

RING and johnny, sorry -- I should have prefaced this by asking for input only from those who actually read books, understand good literature and have seen the inside of a library in the past decade or so.

Thanks, Coop. I read one of Nevin's books about a year ago, called Lucifer's Hammer. Nice, entertaining read.

Just like the feel of a book.
Electronic sex is all I can handle online...

My in-laws have Nooks and really like them. They researched the Kindle and the Nook beforehand. My wife and I were planning on getting Nooks ourselves, but we have found the Nook app on our android phones is more than adequate for us so we won't be buying the eReader separate. If we were to though, we'd go with the Nook for a lot of the same reasons Coop mentions.
your in-laws sound crazy....
divorce is your only hope......

They're in-laws, what can you really expect? Being 700 miles away helps too.

If you're into Sci-Fi, the Ringworld and '<adjective> of Worlds' series are really good stuff. I'm starting into John Ringo's Posleen War series now since they're available free online. I use Calibre and convert them to .epub format which you can easily sideload (plug in to a computer and drop files on) onto a nook. There's a lot of other places to find ebooks other than B&N and Amazon many of them free *and* legal. Like http://www.baen.com/library/

Have probably read 100 books on there, the best part is you can read a review of a book, go to Amazon, click, buy, and be reading it in 3 minutes.
Great in the sunlight, outside, on a plane, wherever.
Wish I would have waited for the $139 price, but I bought over a year ago.

I did not know they had over 100 "How to lose at horse betting, and still look cool" books.

I've had my Kindle about a week now. It's fucking awesome. The best $139 I've ever spent.
