A major tenet of the Democratic Party...

Another tenet of the Dem party is to give people so much via Government programs until they forgot that Robert Byrd was the typical Dem politician.

Here's an item I found on a "black" website attacking B. Hussein Obama for fanning the flames of stereotypes by calling out the black families' absentee fathers. The site is at: (http://www.blackamer...bamaasmonkey620)

Unique website - they attack Obama for not toeing the party line but then defend his any time "whitey" (this includes the Japanese) says or does anything disparaging to black folks.

Again, this is a case where a conversation cannot take place if only one side can speak, and apparently Bill Cosby is on the side that cannot talk.
----------------------

The Hutchinson Report: Barack Obama’s Father’s Day Lament on Absent Black Males Just Fans Old Stereotypes

Date: Friday, June 20, 2008

By: Earl Ofari Hutchinson, Special to BlackAmericaWeb.com

Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama thundered to long, loud and vigorous applause from a Father’s Day church crowd that black fathers don’t engage with their children. A month before Obama made this stereotypical and plainly false assertion, Boston University professor Rebekah Levine Coley, in a comprehensive study on the black family, found that black fathers who aren’t in the home are much more likely to sustain regular contact with their children than absentee white fathers, or for that matter, fathers of any other ethnic group. The study is not an obscure study buried in the thick pages of a musty academic journal. It was widely cited in a feature article on black fathers in the May 19, 2008 issue of Newsweek. There was no excuse, then, to spout this myth. The facts are totally contrary to Obama’s knock.

But, then again, this kind of over the top, sweeping talk about alleged black father irresponsibility from Obama isn’t new. In stump speeches, he’s pounded black fathers for their alleged dereliction, irresponsibility and negligence. Whether Obama is trying to shore up his family values credentials with conservatives, feels the need to vent personal anger from the pain and longing from being raised without a father or criticizes out of a genuine concern about the much-touted black family breakup is anybody's guess. But Obama clearly is fixated on the ever-popular notion of the absentee black father. And that fixation, for whatever reason, is fed by a mix of truth, half-truths and outright distortion.

Obama commits the cardinal error that every critic from the legions of sociologists, family experts, politicians and morals crusader Bill Cosby -- who have hectored black men for being derelict in their fatherly duties -- have made. He omits the words “some,” “those,” or “the offenders” before black fathers. Instead, he makes, or at least gives the impression, that all or most black men aren’t in the home and are irresponsible. That being the case, ipso facto they are the cause for the much fingered crime-drugs-violence-gross underachievement syndrome that young black males are supposedly eternally locked into.

Obama presents absolutely no evidence to back up this devastating indictment. The worst case estimate is that slightly less than half of black children live in fatherless homes. But that’s only a paper figure. When income, education, individual background and middle-class status are factored in, the gap between black and white children who live in intact two parent households is much narrower. (??)

This points to the single greatest reason for the higher number of black children who live in one-parent households. That reason is poverty. A 2007 study noted that a black father's ability to financially contribute the major support in the home is the major determinant of whether he remains in the home. That’s no surprise, considering that despite changing gender values and emphasis, society still dumps the expectation and burden on men to be the principal bread-winner and financial provider. Put bluntly, men and the notion of manhood are still mainly defined by their ability to bring home the bacon. A man who falls short of that standard is considered a failure and loser.

The chronic, near-Great Depression levels of unemployment, not to mention rampant job discrimination, endemic failing public schools and stigma of a criminal record virtually condemn many young black men to wear the tag of societal failures as men and fathers. Obama, in his rap against black men as fathers, says nothing about the economic devastation that drives many black men from the home or prevents them from being in the home in the first place.

Obama, undoubtedly is well-intentioned in his criticism of black family problems and certainly doesn’t mean to slander all, or even most black men, as derelict, laggards and slackers as fathers. Obama, as Cosby and others who beat up on black males for alleged fatherly dereliction, would almost certainly publicly bristle at criticism that he takes the worst-of-the-worst behavior of some black men and publicly hurls that out as the warped standard of black America.

Yet, that's precisely what he’s done. And since every utterance by him is instant news and is taken as fact by legions of supporters and admirers, that makes his fan of stereotypes about black men even more painful.

ZIMBABWE
Isolation Nation
Mugabe forced out his foe. What comes next won't be pretty.

By Scott Johnson | Newsweek Web Exclusive
Jun 23, 2008 | Updated: 12:43 p.m. ET Jun 23, 2008

These are strangely repulsive days in Zimbabwe--a little like watching an Orwellian horror show unfolding in slow motion. Recently, several polling agents loyal to the opposition Movement for Democratic Change were found dead. Whoever had killed them had cut off all of their arms and legs, butchered them and left the remains unceremoniously lying about. Another MDC activist was beaten so badly, and so thoroughly, that her head had swollen to twice its normal size and she was in critical condition at a hospital. But Monday's Herald, the state-run newspaper and mouthpiece of the dictator Robert Mugabe's regime, led with this cheery bulletin: "Government Rolls out Basic Goods." Bravo, Robert Mugabe. Orwell would have been proud.

In fact, there's hardly any news rolling out of Zimbabwe at all these days; the government has made sure of that. And none of it is good, or basic. Instead, it is a baroque litany of terror and mayhem. Yesterday opposition candidate Morgan Tsvangirai, who has been struggling to unseat Mugabe for over a decade, pulled out of the upcoming runoff election with only five days to go, citing unacceptably high levels of violence. Now, Newsweek has learned, MDC activists are investigating whether Mugabe's regime has been plotting all along to assassinate key members of the opposition in a coordinated plan to "eliminate" certain key players. "This is a war going on out there," says MDC activist Simon Spooner, who estimates that a regime crackdown on the MDC election monitoring structures has left a skeleton crew of 20 to 30 percent of its staff able to work, and those in increasingly life-threatening conditions. "They have systematically gone across the country beating and killing polling agents."

But Tsvangirai's decision to withdraw nevertheless cast everything in turmoil. The opposition candidate still has to officially declare his withdrawal to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. If he goes through with it, Mugabe will go to the polls on Friday unchallenged. Within a day he will have appointed governors, senators and a cabinet. He'll have to convene parliament, which the MDC won by a slim majority in the first round election last March 29th. But Mugabe will retain control over the upper house of government and, with firm control of the presidency, will have cemented his iron grip once again.

He will, however, be increasingly isolated. On Wednesday, in a preemptive move, the MDC plans to formally announce its proposal to form a "transitional government" with Tsvangirai as its leader. The hope is that the implosion of the economy, increased pressure from neighboring African states like Zambia and Botswana, and a renewed effort to get United Nations Security Council-approved sanctions will be too much pressure for Mugabe to withstand. This week, Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa called for a delay in the elections, and is reported to be in talks to take an increased role in putting pressure on the 84-year old Mugabe to accept some sort of negotiated settlement. Even Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos, Mugabe's long-standing ally, has begun to question his neighbor's behavior. Yesterday, Mugabe told supporters that "only God" would remove him from power.

A deal is unlikely, however. More probable is that Mugabe will choose to isolate himself further. Even after Tsvangirai's announcement yesterday, Mugabe thugs assaulted Harvest House, the MDC headquarters in the capital Harare, and arrested over 60 more activists. "The stance they're taking is they want to keep beating people up, intimidating, cowing everyone," says one international observer in Harare, "It's 'kick them when they're down and eliminate them as any kind of force.'" That strategy may backfire. For one, the economy has imploded. One U.S. dollar today will get you $10,000,000,000 (that's ten billion in case you had difficulty with the zeros) Zimbabwean dollars. Industry has ground to a halt. And with international NGO's forced to halt their work, and maize imports from neighboring countries like Zambia on the decline, Mugabe's worst enemy could turn out to be hunger, anger and the winter cold that has descended upon southern Africa--in other words, all the ingredients for a revolution.
I like you. People say I've got no taste, but I like you.
